Tom Hegarty (1924-2013)

Tom Hegarty was a fiddle player from Boghil, Kilfenora, born in 1924. A member of the Kilfenora Céilí Band during the 1930s and 1940s, he was known for his strong, steady playing and was part of the band during an important era in its early history. Tall, powerful, and well-liked, Tom was remembered as both a formidable presence and a very kind man.

He later moved to Carron after marrying a local woman from the area, but his musical roots in Kilfenora remained strong throughout his life.

Tom’s sister, Betty Lynch (née Hegarty), was also musically gifted — a talented singer in her own right. She married Jerry Lynch, another prominent member of the Kilfenora Céilí Band, making music a central part of family life on both sides.
