Mickey Rynne (1923-1998)

Mickey Rynne, born in 1923 in Cahersherkin, near Ennistymon, was a gifted tin whistle player and part of the well-known Rynne family, who were central to the traditional music scene of North Clare.

Mickey was known for his love of music and for travelling to house dances across the region, where he played to entertain neighbours and friends in the informal, social settings that defined rural musical life. His playing brought warmth and energy to these gatherings, and he was remembered fondly for his generosity of spirit.

Among his all-time favourite tunes were the reels “The Woman of the House” and “The Maids of Mount Cisco”, which he played with great heart and familiarity.

Mickey passed away on 19 August 1998.
