Mickey Organ (1920-2006)

Mickey Organ was a respected concert flute and tin whistle player from Cahersherkin, known for his gentle nature, sharp mind, and strong presence in the local traditional music scene. He regularly played at house dances, often alongside Seán Rynne, his friend and musical companion. Mickey’s sister was married to Seán, making him the uncle of Anne Rynne, a current member of the Kilfenora Céilí Band.

Mickey was also one of the founding members of the Ennistymon branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, helping to foster and support the tradition in North Clare during its formative years.

He worked on the family farm and was remembered by those who knew him — including my grandfather Jimmy O’Donoghue — as a lovely, well-educated man with a quiet warmth and genuine kindness.

Mickey was married to Philomena Kelleher from Glann, Ennistymon, and together they shared a life rooted in music, community, and the values of rural Clare.
