Michael ‘Gam’ O’Donoghue was born in 1916 in Shedrum, Co. Clare, and was a respected fiddle player, known for his strong, traditional style and deep roots in the musical culture of North Clare. Affectionately known as ‘Gam’, he was part of a family with close ties to both music and farming in the region.
He was the brother of Catherine ‘Gam’ Butler (née O’Donoghue), and uncle to accordion player Mike Butler, who would go on to become one of the most well-known traditional musicians in the area. He passed away in 1992.
