Martin Conway (1938–2023)

Martin Conway of Knockanedan, Kilfenora, Co. Clare, was a flute player and former member of the No. 1 Army Band. Born into a musical family, Martin was one of five brothers and grew up surrounded by traditional Irish music in rural Clare.

He served with distinction in the Irish Army Band, where he played for many years before eventually returning to live in Knockanedan. Music remained an important part of his life throughout.

Martin passed away on 2nd September 2023 after a short illness. He was predeceased by his brothers Tony, Michael and John Joe, and is survived by his wife Mary, children Catherine, Martin and Ann, grandson Liam, brother Br. Charles, as well as extended family, neighbours and friends.
