MAPPING THE MUSIC
This map charts the birthplace or home of traditional musicians and singers born before 1950 who are part of the Sounds of Kilfenora project. While the focus is on musicians from Kilfenora and its immediate environs, some from bordering areas are also included.
This map is not definitive—it only includes the people I was able to research in the time I had. New townlands and individuals will be added over time as previously overlooked players come to light through research, family stories, or chance discoveries in attics and archives.
Notice how certain townlands form clusters of musicians. These concentrations hint at vibrant local networks where neighbours swapped tunes during what little downtime they had, where families nurtured multiple generations of players, and where music was simply woven into daily life.
